Radiomarathon
2003 raises in excess of $200,000 for children
Radiomarathon fundraising events for children with
special needs raised a huge AUD$200,000.
A significant initiative of Laiki Bank, which exemplifies
the importance the bank places on its social responsibility,
is the coordination of Radiomarathon, a peak social
and philanthropic activity, which aims to raise
funds and awareness for children with special needs.
Radiomarathon, is organised annually and exclusively
by the Laiki Group on a worldwide scale.
In Australia, Radiomarathon organised a series of
events that were exceptionally successful. Such
events included a football match between South Melbourne
and Heidelberg Soccer Clubs in Victoria, the annual
100x$100 lunch kindly coordinated by St George College
in Adelaide, South Australia, a taverna night at
Greek nightspot "Anesi" in Sydney, a seminar
given by Professor Minas Coroneos regarding eyesight
problems, a student art exhibition organised by
St Spyridon College in Sydney, as well as an Australia
wide Christmas Card Drawing Competition, bowling
and table tennis tournaments and the annual Radio
Appeals in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
An impressive characteristic of Radiomarathon in
Australia in 2003 was the warm response from the
public at the Sydney Dinner and Melbourne Ball.
The biggest surprise this year was the huge success
of the annual Radiomarathon Ball at the Sofitel
in Melbourne, where the crowd's encouraging enthusiasm
for this philanthropic cause was displayed through
their generous donations to help children with special
needs, hence the huge success of the function. All
the above mentioned events marked a huge success
for Radiomarathon raising in excess of $200,000,
an amount which surpassed the previous year by roughly
50%. Recently, as in the past, Radiomarathon has
had the strong support of the NSW Government and
the Minister for Justice, the Hon Mr John Hatzistergos,
who kindly donated $10,000 expressing their support
for Radiomarathon and the recognition of the charity's
extremely worthwhile work in the Australian Community.
Also noteworthy are the major milestones achieved
by Radiomarathon on an international philanthropic
scale. In Cyprus, to date the charity has raised
an estimated 14,5 million Cypriot Pounds (approx.
$43.5 million - AUD!) catapulting the charity's
status to that of one of the largest in the world,
and earning Radiomarathon a spot in the Greek Guiness
Book of Records. In Greece, Laiki Bank was awarded
at the "Leaders of the Year Awards 2002"
for Radiomarathon and its leading and active role
in social issues and responsibility, which took
place at the Intercontinental Hotel in Athens on
19 February 2003.

In Australia,
Radiomarathon is a sure success as every year it
doubles its achievements and continues to win the
support of political and community groups.

who has supported and continues to support Radiomarathon |
